Signal Strength and Color Labels
GSM Signal Monitor uses colored bars and other symbols to represent the current signal strength and status of your device. For devices with multiple SIM cards, the app displays signal strength information separately for each SIM. Below is an explanation of what each color, number of bars, and symbols mean:
-
4 Black Bars (⬛⬛⬛⬛) – No Service
Your device is not receiving any signal. You won't be able to make calls, send messages, or use mobile data until a signal is regained. -
1 Red Bar (🟥⬛⬛⬛) – Very Weak Signal
The signal is very low. You may experience dropped calls, slow data speeds, or difficulty connecting to the network. -
2 Orange Bars (🟧🟧⬛⬛) – Moderate Signal
The signal strength is moderate. Your device should be able to connect, but the quality may be suboptimal, with possible slowdowns. -
3 Green Bars (🟩🟩🟩⬛) – Good Signal
A good signal. Calls should be stable, and data speeds should be decent, though not at full potential. -
4 Green Bars (🟩🟩🟩🟩) – Excellent Signal
The best possible signal strength. You can expect fast data speeds and excellent call quality. -
R Mark Next to Bars (🟩🟩🟩🟩 R) – Roaming
If you see an R next to the signal bars, it means your device is currently in roaming mode. This typically occurs when you're outside your usual network coverage area, and you might incur extra charges for calls, messages, and data usage depending on your mobile plan.
Key Notes:
- The more colored bars you see, the stronger your signal.
- Black bars indicate no signal, while colored bars—from red (low) to green (high)—show increasing signal strength.
- The R symbol indicates that your device is connected to a network outside of your home provider's coverage area (roaming).
